Children In Kabul Safer Than London Or New York: NATO Envoy

By ONE Liners Agencies

AFGHANISTAN NEWS - A top civilian envoy of NATO commented that children in war inflicted Afghanistan were safer than who were growing up in London or New York.

Mark Sedwill, the senior civilian representative for NATO said in an television episode that children in Kabul were safer and secure more than bigger cities like New York or London. He said the society in Afghanistan was family oriented and in Kabul and other big cities there were lesser bombs. Children were more secure in mind than other big cities like Glasgow or New York.

However, A recent UN report portrayed a contradict picture and differ from Sedwill's assessment.

The report released in February said that children in Afghanistan are victimized of ongoing roadside attacks, crossfire between militants and international forces, and air strikes.

Moreover, terrorists have been used them as a human shields and recruited as a suicide bombers.

The report conducted by special representative for children and armed conflict said that the Afghan boys are sexually molested by armed groups and girls are not allowed to educate. Most of the small schools were burned down.

Earlier this year, newspaper reported a series of acid attacks against Afghan girls.

Mr. Sedwill elaborated about his comment Monday. He said he made a distinction that actually distracted attention from the important point he was seeking to make. He said that in Afghanistan children were experiencing uneven violence where half the insurgent violence took place in 10 of the 365 districts, and, in those places, children are too often the victims of IEDs and other dangers. However, in Kabul in recent times, the situation has improved and comparable to Western cities. He further added that Afghanistan’s biggest challenges were poverty, the sanitary problem, malnutrition disease and children suffered from those more than insurgency.
