First Note: Greetings from the Interim Pastor

Things calmed down after that and the church had smooth sailing for a while. All over the country—Judea, Samaria, Galilee—the church grew. They were permeated with a deep sense of reverence for God. The Holy Spirit was with them, strengthening them. They prospered wonderfully. -- Acts 9:31 (The Message)

I’m writing a brief note to introduce myself as your interim pastor. There will be many hellos over the next couple of months, but I want to use this occasion to alert you to a way to keep up with my activities and reflections. If you care to look online, you can follow what I’m calling my “PCMK Interim Blog” at http://pcmkinterim.blogspot.com

As I look forward to being with you at 10 AM this Sunday in worship, I’m aware that Jim Poinsett has been raising the bar for me. I’ve listened online to his recent sermons that include references to the skills and vision that I will bring as your interim pastor, and the responsibilities that you’ll have as a congregation. I’m tempted to try lowering expectations, but as you will discover, I am who I am. And claiming the sufficient grace of God (2 Corinthians 12:9), I dare to believe that, together, we will do good work and have a joyous time in this interim journey.

As you’ve heard, we have a congregational meeting coming up after worship this Sunday, to approve a motion to dissolve the relationship with Rev. James K. Poinsett as Associate Pastor. It’s bound to be a moment of some feeling, as Jim has accompanied you through important times, and you’ve been there for him as well. I’ve learned that, in addition to that action, we will need to act on a couple of housekeeping matters from the Nominating Committee to fill some vacancies in our leadership.

I understand that Hugh Sigmon will be presenting the following nominations: Bert Fuqua to fill a vacancy on our Board of Trustees; Lisa Kitterman-Cohen and Alison Tai to fill vacancies on our Board of Deacons.

Meanwhile, if you want to talk to me, I plan to be in the office most mornings. (Saturday is my regular day off.) Just drop by, or call me on my cell phone (201-406-8991) to confirm a time. You can also reach me on the e-mail address pastor@pcmk.org PLEASE CALL ME IF YOU HAVE A NEED OR A JOY OR CONCERN TO SHARE.

Sincerely,
Jack Lohr, Interim Pastor
