Maintaining his innocence while battling with sexual charges, International Monetary Fund Chairman has resigned from his post, saying he served the post with “honor and devotion”.

He sent a letter to the IMF board, denying any involvement in sexual assault with a hotel maid. In his letter he said with “greatest possible firmness” that he was not involved in any sexual transgression, giving his resignation to protect the institution, which he (said) served with dedication and honor. He further emphasized on proving his innocence, devoting his time, strength and energy.

Mr. Strauss-Kahn said that he forced to resign with “infinite sadness.”

It was earlier reported that Mr. Strauss-Kahn was placed on a suicide watch, but one of his attorneys, William Taylor, said his client was in acceptable mental condition.

“It was serious, but good," said Taylor. "He is a strong man and he is committed to seeing this through."

The resignation suddenly bewildered IMF board, igniting dispute over a successor. Presently his deputy, John Lipsky, an American, will serve as acting managing director. There are many contenders already lined up where fast growing economic nations like China, Brazil and South Africa want to break Europe’s monopoly over the post.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says developing economies can have their rights to fight for the post, but seeing the present turmoil in the eurozone demands a European IMF leader. On the other hand, Brazil's finance minister, Guido Mantega says the post should be filled on the basis on merit.

In recent weeks, gas prices eased a little, but they are, on average, up about 30 percent over a year earlier. High fuel price amplifies in food price, airfares, taxi fares in some regions, making American consumers conscious in their approach.

The high oil prices have also affected retail and other business. For example, the nation’s largest retailer, Wal-Mart lamented that high fuel price had restrained consumers to involve in shopping, hampering their business. Sales of the retail giant fell 1.1 percent in the first quarter.

Lowe’s one of the largest home improvement chains in US suffered 5.7 downslide in quarterly profit, as customers made less trips. According to Lowe’s chief executive, Robert A. Niblock, chief reason of fewer footfalls is because of rising gas and energy prices, followed by overall inflation.

In a research on consumer spending by MasterCard Advisors’ SpendingPulse, it disclosed 1 percent downslide in many gas pumps in the country over a year earlier.

In a recent comment by a possibly a Socialist candidate, who is also believed to be a close associate of Strauss-Kahn in France presidential election, said Saturday the IMF chief was persecuted for a smear campaign by President Nicolas Sarkozy’s camp.

Socialist politician Jean-Marie Le Guen expressed in his interview said Mr. Sarkozy totally planned an organized campaign to taint the character of his main rival in next year election. He said the Elysee (Sarkozy’s office) structured for months to clear out the idea how they would attack (his) personal character.

Jean Veil, Strauss-Kahn's lawyer said he would probably file a legal action against a French newspaper, questioning about the lifestyle of his client. He further added that the newspaper produced several inaccurate details such a possession of suits from a luxury tailor in Washington and described him a worker from US President Barack Obama.

"His suits are perfectly normal and allegations which are now spread regularly throughout the media are both fabrications and now clearly defamatory," Le Guen said.

It is noted that in a recent opinion polls suggested Mr. Strauss-Kahn would win the Socialist Party primaries against French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

WORLD NEWS - International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn appeared at the court in New York for a sexual charge accused for an attempted to rape a hotel maid. Meanwhile, Mr. Strauss-Kahn denied the charge, dismissing it as a political conspiracy. It is noted that he had been seen a candidate in France's 2012 presidential election.

Adding insult to the injury, a similar complaint had been lodged by a French writer who said that Mr. Strauss-Kahn sexually assaulted her in 2002.

This is the first time when Mr. Straus-Kahn had appeared in court since he was pulled off a plane in May 14 for sexually abuse a hotel maid.

He was sitting at John F. Kennedy International Airport prepared to depart, shortly arrested and took a seat on a bench in Manhattan criminal court.

He is charged with unlawful imprisonment and a criminal sex act. However, 62 year-old Mr. Strauss-Kahn had denied the allegation. His lawyer Benjamin Brafman said he would plead not guilty at court.

According to New York Police Department, the 32-year-old hotel mail works at Sofitel hotel in midtown Manhattan who was attacked by IMF chief during his visit to the hotel.
The wood-lined courtroom was packed with journalists, general public and even a French consulate representative. Strauss-Kahn's lawyer Benjamin Brafman defended his client denying the allegation that Mr. Strauss-Kahn trapped the maid in a hotel and tried to rape her.
The accused victim used to work from last three years at the luxury Sofitel hotel alleged Mr. Strauss-Kahn suddenly Sunday and won a warrant against him to seek DNA evidence.

"He intends to vigorously defend these charges and denies any wrongdoing," Brafman told reporters.

The shocking news of one of the world’s most powerful men left IMA staggering just before the significant discussion over the debt crisis sweeping the eurozone.

Mr. Strauss-Kahn's wife, former French television journalist defended his husband, saying he was fenced in a political conspiracy and did not believe. She also asked for "decency and restraint".

The arrest triggered a reeling speculation across France over the authenticity of the allegation, as many think it might because of political motives. It is noted that IMF chief had been seen a strong political contender for France’s next year Presidential election.

However, the history of Mr. Strauss-Kahn is not spotless, as he was mired with controversy earlier. In 2008, he was noticed for an affair with a Hungarian IMF economist. He was loosely alleged for inappropriate behavior but the IMF concluded he had not exerted pressure on the lady.

After the death of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden on Sunday in Pakistan, the official website of F.B.I. gets an update. It layered a red box over the black and white portrait of Osama with the word "DECEASED."

The Al-Qaida leader was on the top of the U.S. "most wanted" list with a reward of $27 million, though U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did not mention about payment of any reward in a news conference on Monday.

F.B.I has now eliminated Osama from the Most Wanted list and Ayman al-Zawahiri takes the top spot. His name is associated with a reward of $25 million and he is the only other person on the list presently carrying a reward of such huge amount.

Up to $5 million is rewarded for information that leads to the capture of wanted militants or its conviction and $1 million for others.

Ayman al-Zawahiri is the person behind bombings of U.S. Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya on August 7, 1998. Al-Qaeda leader Bin Laden is Dead, says U.S. President Barack Obama.

Al-Qaida mastermind and the most wanted face of terrorism Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan in a firefight with United States forces on Sunday, announced President Obama.

Mr. President declared in a dramatic late-night appearance in White House East Room that "justice has been done."

Six days after 9/11 WTC attacks a reporter asked the then U.S. President George W. Bush, "Do you want Bin Laden dead?" Bush replied, "I want him — I want justice." About a decade after the quest ended with the death of Osama.

In a 80-minute confrontation with American forces in the medium-sized city of Abbttabad in Pakistan came end of Bin Laden. He was presumed to be hiding for long in this remote tribal area, about an hour's drive from Islamabad and home to Pakistani military base.

The massive compound where he was sheltered included a house about eight times larger than other homes in the locality. The house, however, had no Internet connections and not even a telephone.

According to a senior administration official, when American operatives converged, Osama "resisted the assault force" and in the middle of intense gun battle he was killed.

The official added further that first time last summer intelligence and military officials learned about a "high-value target" being protected in the compound. Since then a plan was being worked to get Laden. President Obama presided few national security meetings in beginning of March at the White House to discuss about the operation plan and on Friday morning he gave the final order of strike.

WORLD NEWS - Yet another sensational report published by whistle blower WikiLeaks, saying some senior al-Qaida leaders were in Pakistan's Karachi city on 9/11 twin towers attack day. The documents were published by Washington Post accessed by WikiLeaks, saying most al-Qaida leaders were returned to Afghanistan within a day from Karachi.

The media report revealed that the prime al-Qaida leaders were in Karachi on September 11, 2001. One leader was admitted at a hospital and treated for tonsillectomy and another was buying lab equipment for a biological weapons program. Other al-Qaida key members were in New York and Washington, enjoying the destruction on television. However, within a day most of the major leaders were back to Afghanistan.

The documents gathered by Washington Post from WikiLeaks speak of a big meeting of al-Qaida’s senior member in early December 2001 in Afghanistan's mountainous Zormat region. It also speaks about the al-Qaida’s chief Osama bin Laden who was seen in Afghanistan's Kandahar province. There in a small guesthouse he instigated militants to “fight against the infidel invaders in the name of Allah.”

For the next three months, Osama and his chief associate Ayman al Zawahiri traveled by car to several areas in Afghanistan and during this time he almost ran out of money and borrowed $7,000 from one of his protectors. He returned the money within a year.

WikiLeaks also documented some geographic locations for bin Laden in his clandestine resident in Pakistan.

Karzai Accuses Western Accounting Firms For Kabul Bank's Turmoil

AFGHANISTAN NEWS - President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai Monday has blamed Western financial firms for corruption and disability to recognize the problems of Kabul's largest bank. It is reported that some Afghan officials have already traveled to Washington to present their plan to decimate the bank.

At a news conference, President Karzai consolidated depositors of Kabul bank about the safety of their money and asked for prosecution of foreign accounting firms along with those shareholders who still to pay illegitimate loans.

He blamed international organizations and foreign firms who took millions of dollars to improve the banking system, hoaxed their job. He further said the accounting firms provided the Central Bank with inaccurate information and cheated Afghanistan government.

He stressed on three firms: Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Deloitte and Bearing Point for the reason of turmoil of Afghanistan's largest bank. It is noted that one of the affiliates of Pricewaterhouse Coopers performed an audit on the bank and after three months trouble started brewing. Other two firms Deloitte and BearingPoint had a contract from the United States Agency of International Development to help Central Bank to evaluate and betterment of banking system.

Afghan officials who have gone to Washington, are expected to present a plan to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank so that the Central Bank can recover from some loss. The plan includes selling off assets from borrowers who still to pay their loans. The plan also have suggestion for a buyer for the working parts of the institution, for example, distribution network for government salaries.

It is appeared that President Karzai speech aimed to make people prepare for the bank's dismantling. The speech also sounded like his earlier ones about Western interests, and particularly American interests, had harmed Afghanistan.

The blame game is on from both sides. Some Western officials suspected a bribery case where bank's financial situation was erased by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Some also believed the bank's shareholders, all of whom are Afghans bribed the foreign accounting firms to whitewash the facts.

An European diplomat warned that Mr. Karzai’s frequent bashing would be prove to be fatal, especially in Europe where people were reluctant to support the war and taxpayers could quickly turn against it.

“The appetite of the taxpayers and the governments are going to be very little, especially since this appetite is not getting good news from the theater,” the diplomat said.

Mr. Karzai in recent times frequently bashed the Western countries for the Afghanistan turmoil situation, spending billions of dollars on the country and risking soldiers. In a recent public appearance he also questioned about NATO involvement in Afghanistan. However, he later clarified his remark was specific as he believed to cease military operations to avoid civilian casualties.

Thousands Workers Demand In Edmonton For Canada Elections

It is noted that Mr. minority Conservative government was defeated in a confidence vote in this week.

In his appeal to Canadian people he asked people to vote judiciously and not to choose a “reckless” coalition to replace his government.

March 24 - Young Shi'ites have attacked and killed foreign laborers throughout Bahrain. According to human rights groups, most of the attacks by the Shiites were on Asian expatriates such as Bangladeshis and Pakistanis.

March 23 - Bahrain today suspended all the flights to and from Lebanon after the Lebanese leader Hezbollah criticized the Arab countries for supporting rulers of Bahrain. Meanwhile, the curfew has been reduced by two hours, which was imposed from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. (local time) in capital Manama last week after the worst unrest in years.

Obama Appreciates China Over Human Right, Stresses On Economic Relation

WASHINGTON NEWS- The US President Barack Obama Wednesday humbly admitted that China was making progress in human rights but he also asked Beijing to concentrate on the growing economic relationship between the United States and its biggest rival.

While two presidents stood side by side at a nationally televised news conference, Mr. Obama said the issue on human rights were earlier a significant cause of tension between two governments. Again, he said China must live up to human rights values that the constitution declared to the country. He emphasis on the core views on certain rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly.

Mr. Hu acknowledged the fact that the US had agreed on certain aspects of China's human right issues. He said the country was facing certain challenges in economic and social development and there were lots of area to be improved regarding human rights. He further expressed his willingness to talk to the US but asked a total noninterference in each other's internal affairs.

The US has a fractious relationship with China over certain human right matters, including North Korea alliance with China and Chinese currency. It is reported by administration officials that Mr. Obama pressed Chinese President specifically on China's imprisonment of its Nobel laureate, Liu Xiaobo during a private dinner at the White House Tuesday.

The visit of Chinese President also witnessed a healthy trade deals between two nations. The White House announced that the two nations would generate $45 billion in American exports with the deal. It is reported that China had agreed to take step on the theft of intellectual property and expand the opportunities for American investment in China.

The two superpower of the world have a fractious relationship over many issues and it is seeing by analysts that the visit of Chinese President gives an excellent opportunity to strengthen the economy of America and eventually invigorate the sour relationship between the White House and the US business community. William M. Daley, Mr. Obama’s new chief of staff and the former Clinton administration commerce secretary had sought to turn Mr. Hu's visit into a kind of business proposal for American companies.

On Wednesday there were a few business deals signed between two countries. The biggest one was in which China authorized Chinese companies to buy 200 airplanes from Boeing, worth $19 billion. There were also announcement of joint venture between Honeywell and Haier. Moreover, railway and energy contracts for General Electrics were signed between two countries. It is claimed that the deals would give away place for 235,000 jobs in 12 states, though the actual status of deals are still clandestine.

There were another issue raised by Mr. Hu who pressed good relations between two country's military. The US government earlier used to express concern over defiant and progressive Chinese military. There are hopes to raise better communication between the Pentagon and the People's Liberation Army.

Former Israeli President Moshe Katsav Convicted Of Rape

WORLD NEWS - The ex Israeli president Moshe Katsav was convicted of two counts of rape, and would face at least eight years in jail. He was alleged to assault a former employee, in what the Israeli prime minister lamented "a sad day for Israel".

The verdict also said that Mr. Katsav guilty of sexually harassing a second employee over the four year scandal that literally shocked the country.

The presiding judge, George Kara gave the verdict, saying Mr. Katsav had engaged in a campaign of vilification against the plaintiffs. He read the verdict, saying the the accused placed her testimony with appropriate evidence and told the truth.

The courtroom was packed and when the verdict was read, Mr. Katsav, 65, was visibly crestfallen and muttered "no, no", while his son screamed, ''It's not true, it's not true''.

Moreover, Mr. Katsav was accused of indecent acts, harassing witnesses and obstructing justice.

The Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu said in his message that the verdict proved that before the eyes of laws, everyone was equal and every woman had a right of her own body.

Mr. Katsav was elected as a president of Israel in the year 2000, before he began his political career in 1977 when he elected to the Knesset as a member of the Likud party and served as an MP. He was the second Israeli after Ezer Weizman to leave office prematurely.
