Two golden balloons with three slips of paper rolled up and tied to their ribbons were lying in the PCMK parking lot this morning. After the reactive thought about the danger to wildlife, I wondered what the message might be. The papers were coverd with colorful, shiny stickers, and inscribed in crayon by children's hands. The first one said, "Dear dad" on one side, and on the other, "To dad can you come dack!? From Sinbad" (I guess Sinbad is still learning which side the ascender goes on to make a "b".) I imagined a balloon release as a child's response to parental separation. But the next paper made it clear: "I wish no one in my family had died, Daddy." The third slip of paper was from Arely. She wrote, "I love Miguel."
So, if I'm reading the message from heaven aright, my prayers today are with the family of Miguel, who has died, especially his children Sinbad and Arely.
