Six SAF Personnel Awarded Commemorative Medal For Peacekeeping Operations in Afghanistan


SINGAPORE - A group of six Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) servicemen were awarded with the Commemorative Medal for Peacekeeping Operations in Afghanistan by the Dutch Defence Minister Sunday afternoon for their contributions towards stabilisation and reconstruction efforts in the country.

The awarded SAF servicemen are SAF Contingent Commander in Uruzgan, Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Chan; former SAF Contingent Commander in Uruzgan, Lieutenant Colonel Dinesh Vasu Dash, who served in Uruzgan from November 2009 to July 2010; and four members of an SAF surgical team comprising team leader Major (Dr) Muhammad Idu, Major (NS) (Dr) Mathew Cheng, Major (NS) (Dr) Philip Iau, and Captain (NS) (Dr) Tan Wah Tze.

The SAF surgical was teamed up with the Netherland since 2008 in the field hospital in Tarin Kowt, Uruzgan in providing surgical and medical support to International Security Assistance Force personnel and emergency medical care to the locals.
