SYDNEY – Holiday goers ideally looking for beaches, mountains or may be heritage. But it’s a combination of beach and food that makes Australia an enviable holiday destination in Asia Pacific. Not far away, Japan keeps shouldered with Kangaroos while China has replaced Hong Kong in third place.

The market research group Nielsen conducted a research where, 714 travelers from 13 key Asia Pacific travel source markets were asked the favorite holiday destination. The research revealed that around 40 percent of respondents would like to visit Australia or Japan in the next two years.

17 percent said Australia is most sought after holiday destination, 16 percent favored Japan and 9 percent would likely go for China. Last year Hong Kong finished third.

"With the allure of visiting new places, beautiful natural scenery, affordability and great food the predominant factors in what motivates people to pick a destination, the all-round tourism products in these destinations puts them high on any traveler's list," said Ross Jackson, head of cross-border business at Asia Pacific Visa which commissioned the survey.

The survey was conducted jointly with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and found that Australia was the most desired vacation destinations of Asia Pacific. 59 percent of neighboring New Zealanders and 29 percent of British travelers opt for all other countries.

Japan was most favored by South Korea with 38 percent crowned it as most preferred holiday making destination followed by 34 percent of Taiwanese, 26 percent of Thais, and 22 percent of people from Hong Kong.

People from countries like India, China, Malaysia, Singapore and the United States also took part in the survey and found that 47 percent travelers arranged their own trips. Mostly United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia people were preferred self organized traveling. The Chinese travelers, however, mostly went for packaged tours.
