Interesting Quote: Joe Solmonese

There can be no doubt that President Barack Obama has improved the lives of LGBT Americans more than any president in history. As with any movement for sweeping social change, our opponents have put up roadblocks along the way, but the president has been an unwavering ally who has delivered on promises both great and small. Much more remains to be done, which is why ensuring that President Obama is able to continue the forward momentum toward equality for another term must be a top priority of our community.

President Obama, it is Time

Months ago I wrote a post called, Who Made Gay Marriage the Battle of 2011? At the time, I thought folks were pushing it to the front of the priority list without everyone being on board.

But looking back, I realized that maybe I was wrong.

This has become the battle of the year, but not by our doing. We have seen the GOP attack gay marriage and civil unions with so much force. NOM has been touring and raising money to stop any possibility of gay marriage from happening in the states and we've seen the return of constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage all together. With this kind of attack why wouldn't we respond.

It's been amazing to watch these battles, mainly because of the changes we are seeing in the public. The approval of gay marriage is growing, more folks are no longer proud to be labeled bigots. But the vigor of our opponents is mind boggling. They continue to spread lies and malicious tactics to push their agenda forward. They are truly dividing our country; putting forth hate and discrimination ahead of job security and health care.

With that said, I think it's time to see our leader come out and lead.

President Obama should step into this battle. He should say that he will end DOMA and push for the repeal. With him, the message will tickle down and cause true change. I know some you will be surprised by my stance, but I think it's time for President Obama to get down with the throw down. We are close to killing this (anti-gay marriage) thing, it would be nice if he shared some his heavy arsenal to do it.

So President Obama, or what I like to call him, "Boo". We need you, please join us.

Obama: Made in the USA

Capitalizing on the birther foolishness, President Obama's campaign are selling MADE IN THE USA T-shirts.

The Obama campaign is selling T-shirts on its website that show Obama's face on the front along with the words "Made in the USA."

On the back is an image of the president's long-form birth certificate from Hawaii — the one the White House finally produced in April in an attempt to squelch the "birthers" who claim Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen, and therefore ineligible to be president.

Starting price for the T-shirts — described on the website as "limited edition" — is $25.
It's cute, but I want one in Black or Azure

Huckabee NOT running for President in 2012. Shocked, that's what I am, shocked!

From the Huffington Post:

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Saturday he will not run for the Republican presidential nomination, a significant development that removes one of the potential front-runners from contention and brings the slow-moving GOP primary process into sharper focus.

“All the factors say go, but my heart says no and that’s the decision I have made,” Huckabee said at the end of his hour-long weekly television program on Fox News.

No surprise there, pretty much everybody knew that Huckabee was not interested in leaving his cushy job at Fox News to mount a doomed campaign against Presidenet Obama, now the only question remaining is how long can Palin play the tease before she ultimately has to admit that she has no intention, and no hope, of ever taking on the man who makes the GOP look like a bunch of squalling ill-mannered toddlers.

This "Dead Osama Bin Laden" Photo Is Floating Around [AND IT'S PROBABLY FAKE]

Courtesy of TPM:

Once President Obama announced that Osama bin Laden had been killed by U.S. forces on Sunday, it didn't take long for fake photographs of the terrorist leader's corpse to start circulating. Websites and newspapers fell for them. And so did, apparently, U.S. senators.

Three senators who claimed to have seen a photograph of bin Laden's post-mortem are now backtracking, or flat out admitting that they were duped.

One of the senators is a key decision-maker on national security issues. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), the vice chairman of the Senate intelligence committee, said earlier today that he had seen a photo of a slain bin Laden, describing it in some detail without casting any doubt on its authenticity. But sure enough, he now admits he saw a fake.

"I was shown a picture -- it looked like a picture of bin Laden," Chambliss told TPM. "It appeared to be accurate but it was not."

Chambliss said the photo was electronic and someone -- not a senator or government official -- had shown it to him, but he declined to elaborate.

Jesus, Saxby Chambliss is on the Senate Intelligence Committee, you would think he could tell when he was looking at a fake. Guess not.

You know this means that many of YOU are far more intelligent than some of our Senators, since you were all telling each other both yesterday and today that those photos were fake.

Go ahead.  Give yourselves those pats on the back. You deserve it.

If you click here you an see how the image was faked.

And of course this is just another indication as to why it was a smart move for the White House to decide against releasing the REAL pictures of the dead Bin Laden. No telling what certain photoshop dabblers would have done with THOSE images.

President Obama' Speech On Libya -- News Roundup And Commentaries

Barack Obama Defends US Military Involvement -- The Daily Telegraph

President Barack Obama has offered a moral justification for the coalition military campaign in Libya, saying it had averted a massacre of Col Gaddafi's opponents.

In a nationally televised address the US president answered domestic critics who have questioned the reasons and goals of the mission.

Mr Obama said that allowing the Libyan leader's forces to enter the rebel-held city of Benghazi would have "stained the conscience of the world", and resulted in a massacre that would have offered a green light to other dictators in the regions to commit violence against their peoples.
