About the artists…
Isabel Gehweiler is currently enrolled at The Juilliard School. She is a Prizewinner of the European Artistic Grant, one of the highest European awards for young musicians, previously conferred on artists such as
violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and cellist Sol Gabetta, in the main chamber of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. She works together with highly regarded artists and composers. Her own composition Sphenomegacorona II was awarded first prize in 2007 and premiered by Camerata Zürich in a prizewinners’ concert.
Since 1994 Ms. Gehweiler has taken part in many regional, national and international competitions both as a soloist and as a member of chamber music groups. In 2011 she was awarded by the Kunststiftung Baden-
Württemberg the Kunstpreis Artist Award Baden-Württemberg. Ms. Gehweiler has performed as a soloist with the Warsaw Symphony Orchestra, the Akademie-Orchester Mannheim, the Neues Orchester Basel, and with the Polish Chamber Orchestra as part of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Justyna Jara is a student of The Juilliard School in Lewis Kaplan’s violin class. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in many European countries including Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Austria, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, Ukraine and Switzerland. She has given numerous concerts in her home country of Poland as well. She participated in the following worldwide music festivals: Zenon Brzewski International Music Courses in Lancut, Poland; Summer Academy in Salzburg, Austria and Bowdoin Music Festival in Maine, USA.
Christel Lee is currently studying violin at The Juilliard School with Kyung Wha Chung. She was awarded top prizes in numerous international competitions, most recently the Premio Vittorio Gui Competition in Florence, Italy in 2010. She has performed and participated in master classes in countries including the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Korea, Poland and England.
Michael Resetar is a freshman at The Juilliard School, studying with Mr. Toby Appel. He previously studied with Ms. Susan S. Starrett. He is working closely together with young composers and has premiered works by composer Yuri Boguinia. Recent performances include Steve Reich’s Triple Quartet at Alice Tully Hall in New York in 2010 and Osvaldo Golijov’s Last Round at Symphony Center’s Orchestra Hall in Chicago in 2009. One of Michael’s chamber groups, The Roma Trio, was broadcast on Chicago’s classical music radio station, WFMT. The group also performed at the Union League of Chicago and with the Chicago Chamber Musicians.
Andrew Gonzalez is in his first year as a viola student at The Juilliard School studying with both Heidi Castleman and Hsin-Yun Huang. Last season, Andrew was a member of the Sphinx Chamber Orchestra on their U.S. tour and placed second in the National Sphinx Strings Competition. He played in prestigious recital venues such as Alice Tully Hall and Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Andrew is a scholar of the Itzhak Perlman Music Program. He was also the recipient of a grant from the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission. Andrew is looking forward to his summer at the Sarasota Music Festival.
Nathalie Mittelbach, a mezzo-soprano and native of Basel, Switzerland, is currently a first year graduate student at Juilliard where she studies with Dr. Edith Wiens. She has been the recipient of numerous prizes, among them the Deutscher Akademische Austauschdienst – DAAD-Prize 2006 (Germany), the Migros Kulturprozent and the Ernst Göhner Foundation – Studienpreis Vocal Arts 2008 and 2009 (Switzerland). Last year Ms. Mittelbach performed the role of Amore in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea in New York (USA) as well as Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel in Nurnberg and Augsburg (Germany). As a recitalist she was invited to sing in the Schumannhaus Leipzig, the Munstersaal Basel and the Festsaal
in Ingolstadt.
Terence J. Flanagan has been the Interim Director of Music at The Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco since June 2010. Terry has enjoyed studying, listening to and playing pipe organs in Germany, France and Great Britain while attending several European organ seminars. He held the post of Organist/Assistant Choirmaster at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in NYC, working with Dr. Richard Westenburg for 18 and a half years. Terry studied organ under the instruction of Dr. John Weaver at both the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA and the Juilliard School in NYC.
