Extending the Blessings

I learned today in my daily e-mail from www.partnersinkindness.org that in Yiddish, the appropriate response to the sabbath greeting Gut Shabbos was, Gut Shabbos, gut yor [good sabbath, good year] To Gut morgn [good morning] the traditional response was Gut morgn, gut yor. Or one could leave out the repetitive part and just respond "gut yor." The principle seems to be that one should give back a bit more than one gets.

Might we update this in our common parlance today? The next time someone says, "Have a nice day!" we could respond, "Have a good week!" It wouldn't seem too weird, would it?

Whatever the context, try giving back a little more than you get. A little kindness goes a long way.
