Church School Making Paper Cranes

As an act of solidarity with the people of Japan, our church school has made a commitment to create 1000 paper origami cranes. According to ancient Japanese legend, anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury.

The true story of Sadako Sasaki and the Thousand Paper Cranes has connected this legend to concern about nuclear radiation, making the project an especially apt addition to the financial aid PCMK (led by the Women's Association) will be sending for relief work in Japan.

While origami instructions are notoriously difficult to follow (YouTube probably has easier ones), I have found a page that provides the simplified version of the crane with which I'm familiar. If you want to be involved, check out http://www.origami-fun.com/origami-crane.html or speak to Lynn Lucas or Angie Kung to get hands-on help in learning to make the cranes.
