Toyota, The World's Biggest Carmaker In 2010

JAPAN NEWS - Toyota thrashed General Motors to become the world's leading car manufacturer in 2010 despite the company faced complains of different safety issues in the past.

The report says, the Japanese number one car manufacturing company's sales reached 8.42 million vehicles in 2010, while the competitor General Motor just lagged behind with 8.39 million.

Since 2009, the growing demand of truckmaker Hino and carmaker Daihatsu have been witnessing a tremendous rise in China and Asia countries, and therefore, given an impetus to rise the sales figure in 2010.

Toyota was the biggest challenge for the US based GM, which held the number one position for last 80 years. The report has surely shattered the reputation of the US biggest carmaker organization whose position was unquestioned in last 8 decades.

In an interview Toyota spokesman Paul Nolasco said that the company was more focused on quality rather than quantity and being number one in term of sales was not a significant achievement for them.

He further added that the objective was to become the leader in automobile market albeit on the condition of supreme quality services and utmost customer satisfaction.

The Japanese company suffered a degradation in reputation in 2009, especially in the US where it was the only major carmaker to see sales fall in 2010.

The company had to recall more than 10 million vehicle in whole world for different issues such as faulty floor mats, computer software problems etc.

Meanwhile, GM, which also suffered much before bankruptcy protection and being bailed out by the US government, underwent a massive restructuring in the last year. The company has witnessed sales rise 12.2%, with a 28.8% jump in China. Sales in America rose 6.3%. However, the company has seen fall in European nations such as Germany and Italy where sales figure dropped 29.5% and 10% respectively.
