in the tradition of year end lists happening before december, here's some stuff i've been stoked about in 2009

getting older--- i think it's great. i hated being a teenager, why act like one in my mid 20s? in fact, for as long as i can remember i looked forward to getting older. i'm pretty stoked on the age i am right now. good times. good girlfriend. good cats. good food. good cat food? i'll have to ask kimmswick and sterling about that one...

getting 4 vhs tapes of classic simpson episodes in syndication for $1--- probably the best dollar i ever spent in my life.

spiritual singers record on mississippi--- the best record to make breakfast to ever? maybe! we'll see if it changes. i plan on living at least 10 more years.

trips to christopher's gourmet grill with james and aubrey--- seriously one of the highlights of the week over the past year. i'm getting bummed that the weather is to bad to walk there now.

woods live at berbati's pan --- best show of the year, hands down. blew my mind. i was eating a falafel when they started and ran into the room where they were playing because i was so excited... i probably dripped sauce all over the place. sorry! bonus points for being the only band shirt i have bought in two years.

mary ann and jack coming to visit in august--- great time! i don't get to see enough of my friends that are scattered all over. what a treat.

anderson valley brewing company's crema cerveza--- it was seriously the beer of the year.

the everyday special at pause--- so i have only ate here 3 times, but this is my new favorite place in portland. 2 sliders, fries, and a pale ale for $7.

grass widow s/t lp on make a mess and s/t ep on captured tracks--- they are realllllllllllllly good, people.

getting better at cooking--- i've probably mastered 3 dishes this year.

reading the fourth world omnibus by jack kirby--- good times!

also amber, kimmswick, and sterling should go on this list too, but i don't think they are specific to this year. that's going to be on the best of my life blog post that i do a few minutes before i die. will kimmswick avenge my death? to quote justin mackaughn, "that is the ultimate irie question."




worst of 2009

i spend WAY TOO MUCH of my time arguing with people who have no idea what they're talking about or who just don't understand things because they are close minded--- well, i shouldn't say arguing. mostly i get talked down to a lot and just deal with it because of low self esteem and/or fear of being punished for sticking up for myself. hopefully this won't happen as much next year. my new year's resolution for 2009 was to stop taking so much shit from people but that only lasted two days. i guess we'll see what happens in 2010.

being broke and feeling like i'm going to be broke the rest of my life--- this is another thing i would like to change in my life.

fall and winter in the northwest-- every year i tell myself this will be my last winter here, but now that i have two little meowy dudes depending on me for cat food i'm kinda stuck here. they're worth it, though.

not visiting my friends enough--- this falls under the being broke thing too. i got a few homies that i want to kick it with.

being too good at holding grudges--- there's a lot of shit i should be over by now.



i could probably add about 20 things to both of these lists if i wanted, but i got to make dinner before amber gets home from work.
