TECHNOSQUARE TIPS:PROTECTING YOUR PC DATA WITH ENCRYPTION: BITLOCKER REVIEWED

So you think that protecting your pc with password
is secure? what if some one steals your pc and only uses your hard disk to view the contents in a plug and play mode?.......Data encryption my friend is the way ahead which will eat the thief eat dust, for he will see only rubbish bits and bytes.

Lets see how file encryption works!

First and the most important thing is to backup the data before pursuing with encryption and keep the backup secure .A better option is to store your backup in a pendrive.
You can use Encryption software like TrueCrypt or AxCrypt.
Vista users have a built in encryption package called Bitlocker
BitLocker is one easy way to protect data in your computer. This full disk encryption feature included with Microsoft's Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Enterprise and Windows Server 2008 operating systems designed to protect data by providing encryption for entire volumes.
Encrytion does come with its fair share of disadvantages like system slowdown. Also, lost passwords and key files is the end of it.All said and done , nothing is impossible to crack! so is your pc's security

Beware of threats like
  • Hardware debuggers
  • Online attacks—BitLocker is concerned only with the system’s startup process
  • Post logon attacks
  • Sabotage by administrators
  • Poor security maintenance
  • BIOS reflashing
    • Protection against this can be enabled if you wish
Additionally, Bitlocker only protects the windows partition in your hard drive and doesnt allow dual booting of anothe OS on the windows partition and any attempt to do so will spawn booting issues .So Technosquare verdict is Bitlocker on the windows partition and other open source encryption tools like TrueCrypt or AxCrypt on othe volumes.
