From never-never land to reality; Angela Merkel takes care of business

Before yesterday’s European Council meeting, the European press were predicting that the Franco-German agreement made in Deauville might as well have been made in “never-never land”. Member states will resist and President Sarkozy and Chancellor Merkel will stand “isolated”, they said.

And even as late as this week, UK-based EU observers were in the news repeating that a new EU treaty is virtually impossible, only a year after the Lisbon Tretay entered into force.

Open Europe has argued for months that Merkel means business in her drive for Treaty change - and that she could achieve it if she puts down her foot (the exposure of German taxpayers to sub-prime eurozone loans is one clue, the need to address potential challenges in the German Federal Court is another).

And sure enough, today the German press is buzzing. FT Deutschland’s headline reads, “Merkel wins at Euro-Poker”. Die Welt writes, “Merkel asserts her will in Brussels”. Spiegel chimes in with, “Europe comes up against the Iron Chancellor”.

In a commentary in Handelsblatt Thomas Ludwig writes that, “Merkel and the German government held their nerve at summit negotiations and ultimately had the better argument on their side”. He also congratulates the German Chancellor for “being hardheaded” and said it will “pay off for the eurozone in the long-term”.

Handelsblatt also reports that Merkel advocated the suspension of voting rights for members who flout budget rules purely “for tactical reasons”. In reality, her primary aim was to push for a permanent crisis mechanism for the eurozone, which most member states have agreed is the best way forward. In other words, she established an outlier for member states to reject, pavign way for a deal on what she really wanted.

Merkel just gave her EU colleagues a lesson in how to get things done in Europe - is Whitehall taking note?

So not a fan of the limited EU budget increase then?

"I deplore this initiative. This letter is provocative and has clearly been written for reasons of domestic policy."

- The caretaker Prime Minister of Belgium, Yves Leterme, in response to the letter signed by Cameron, Merkel, Sarkozy et. al. backing a 2.9% increase to the 2011 EU budget.

(NaturalNews) Most of us are familiar with the health hazards of heavy metals, which include auto-immune diseases and many neurological disorders. More than ever, heavy metals are being linked to many forms of cancer. The bad news is that we are heavily burdened with heavy metal toxins. The good news is you can protect and detoxify yourself if you`re diligent.

Heavy Metals "Officially" Recognized as Carcinogenic

Cadmium compounds are part of tobacco smoke. This is a straightforward link to lung and other cancers. Inhaling toxins is the most efficient means of poisoning the human body. Obviously, smokers and those subjected to cigarette smoke are under constant assault from cadmium.

Recognized as a carcinogenic element of commercial antiperspirants and under arm deodorants, aluminum can also be inhaled. Aerosol spraying of heavy metals from high flying aircraft covers non-smokers and smokers. Those trails that most consider benign contrails are actually chemtrails loaded with aluminum and barium.

Chemtrail residue has been analyzed in several locations throughout the world, and aluminum particulates are in every analysis. As the particulate clouds from these chemtrails settle, they become part of what we breathe into our lungs, the most efficient gateway for heavy metal toxicity.

Beryllium, nickel, radium, arsenic, and chromium round out the heavy metals officially recognized as carcinogenic. Arsenic is often found in well waters. The other toxins threaten individuals within specific industries using those metals. None of these heavy metals are as prevalent or pose the carcinogenic threats to the general population as much as cadmium, aluminum, and mercury.

Mercury

Mercury, the heavy metal most dangerous for human health, has been "officially" recognized as "possibly carcinogenic". However, various lab animal studies and epidemiological human surveys indicate that it should be considered carcinogenic.

Internationally known medical researcher, Yoshiaki Omura, MD, has observed that all cancer cells have mercury in them. He believes mercury toxicity is the reason cancer reoccurs after remission.

It`s well known that candida overgrowth and mercury toxicity have a symbiotic relationship. Dr. J. Trowbridge, author of The Yeast Syndrome, noted that reports from MDs treating chronic candida have observed 98% of them with mercury toxicity.

Italian oncologist Dr. Tulio Simoncini`s high cancer cure rate is achieved by injecting bicarbonate of soda into cancer tumors and the surrounding candida. Simoncini has observed candida and cancer meshed together in all of his patients.

Dr. Mark Sircus believes that mercury toxins are the most pervasive in our environment, and contribute in so many ways to creating pathways for cancerous invasions and many other diseases. He notes that mercury filled amalgams are common to many, and almost all cancer patients have several.

Sircus cites different experiments that prove how easy it is for mercury to escape from amalgams, even after soaking in purified water for fifteen minutes! The EPA considers mercury to be the most toxic heavy metal, worse than lead, and a disposal waste hazard. Yet up to forty million tons of mercury are used annually to prepare amalgams for peoples` mouths worldwide.

Other sources of mercury poisoning are vaccines, coal burning energy plants, incinerators, and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Anyone chewing or drinking HFCS spiked junk foods and sodas with mercury amalgams while getting flu shots is under triple jeopardy!

There is Hope

Despite the FDA`s attempt at stifling chelating therapies to remove heavy metals, there are several ways you can do it yourself. The remedies are usually inexpensive. Some are even dietary.

UN High Commissioner on Human Rights issues a statement on the WikiLeaks documents. Excerpt (and good luck with that):

GENEVA (26 October 2010)– “The files reportedly indicate that the US knew, among other things, about widespread use of torture and ill-treatment of detainees by Iraqi forces, and yet proceeded with the transfer of thousands of persons who had been detained by US forces to Iraqi custody between early 2009 and July 2010. The files also allegedly include information on many undisclosed instances in which US forces killed civilians at checkpoints and during operations.

The information adds to the High Commissioner Navi Pillay’s concerns that serious breaches of international human rights law have occurred in Iraq, including summary executions of a large number of civilians and torture and ill-treatment of detainees.

The US and Iraqi authorities should take necessary measures to investigate all allegations made in these reports and to bring to justice those responsible for unlawful killings, summary executions, torture and other serious human rights abuses, in line with obligations under international human rights law, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to which both the US and Iraq are parties.

Afghanistan Update

U.S. and Russian forces collaborate in a raid of four drug laboratories near the border with Pakistan. This is actually a significant development. U.S. withdrawal will be greatly facilitated if regional powers can take more responsibility for addressing the narcotics problem in Afghanistan, given that Afghanistan lacks an effective government and security force.

Afghan officials say Iranian border guards killed a woman who was trying to cross into Iran illegally. There is a large flow of refugees from Afghanistan into Iran, which the Iranians appear to be increasingly trying to stop.

NATO claims a helicopter killed 20 insurgents in Spin Boldak.

Has Cameron underplayed the UK's hand in Europe?

Over at Conservative Home, we examine how David Cameron is getting on in Brussels - the performance so far is a mixed bag, but there's a clear risk that he has underplayed the UK's hand in the negotiations.

Meanwhile, German media praises Angela Merkel's "poker skills". She has now achieved backing from EU leaders, in principle at least, for changing the Treaty in order to introduce a permanent crisis mechanism for the eurozone.

China Discovers World's Fastest Supercomputer

The United States no longer holds the world's fastest supercomputer.

A computer called Tianhe-1A, unveiled at a conference in Beijing, China, can run calculations faster than the earlier speed leader, a computer at a U.S. lab in Tennessee.

The new computer set a presentation record by crunching 2.507 petaflops of data at once. The earlier leader, a computer called Cray XT5 Jaguar and located at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, completed 1.75 petaflop calculations.

Analysts say the innovative record underscores China's place as a global tech leader.

According to Nvidia, the computer technology company, the world's fastest computer will be operated as an open contact system and will be used for large scale scientific computations.

Supercomputers, which basically are many computers strung and networked together, fill entire rooms and even small warehouses. They are often used to processes vast amounts of scientific data. Climate models, for example, are run using the supercomputing power that can be seen in U.S. national labs.

Mount Everest Gets 3G Mobile Network Service

The world's highest third generation (3G) mobile network services base station was set up at the base of Mount Everest on Thursday.

Ncell, a mobile phone and internet operator in Nepal, said it set up a 3G base at an altitude of 5,200 meters (17,000 feet) near the village of Gorakshep, according to Aigars Benders, the chief mechanical officer of Ncell.

"The velocity of the 3G services will be up to 3.6 MB per second," Aigars said."But we could have it up to 7.2 MB if there is insist."

A total of nine stations, with the lowest at 2,870 meters (9,400 feet) at Lukla where the airport in the Everest region is located, came into operation on Thursday.

The service is mostly targeted at the approximately 30,000 tourists who come to trek in Nepal's Himalayan region every year.

A few hundred mountaineers try to climb Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain at 8,848 meters (29,028 feet) and it is predictable that the annual total number of mountaineers in the region number several hundred.

Although Ncell has not tested its 3G services from the top of Everest, Aigars said it is theoretically probable.

Up to 50 people can use the services at a time and if there is demand this faculty can be increased. Four of the base stations are run by solar power with a back-up battery that can control the stations for up to three days.

Sweden-based Teliasonera, the fifth largest mobile company in Europe, has the controlling and working stake in Ncell.

"Teliasonera also has the world's lowest 3G base station in the world," said Teliasonera's CEO Lars Nyberg. He said that the lowest one is at 1,400 meters (4,595 feet) below sea level in a mine in Europe.
